New Orleans jazz, Helsinki style

We encountered this New Orleans style jazz combo in a public park in Helsinki, on a warm July afternoon.  The scene was very relaxed, as people strolled by or stopped to listen to the music.

Bucarest and Helsinki

Here are a few more shots from our recent European travels: First, Bucarest's Gara de Nord train station; then, photos of Helsinki, Finland.  These shots include Uspenski Cathedral, Suomenlinna Maritime Fortress and cental Helsinki.  We had a 24-hour layover in Helsinki, and one highlight was taking a ferry ride to Suomenlinna, an island just offshore from Helsinki's historic center.

The ferry ride was cool and scenic, and we walked around the island, where locals were picknicking, fishing and lining up for a dramatic performance of "Peter Pan" on the day we visited.

A tip: the 24-hour transit pass, available at the tourist office counter at the airport, was a great deal.  For 30 euro (about $37 U.S.) for all three of us, we used the pass for the express bus from the airport to the city center and back, the ferry ride to Suomenlinna and all local transport (trams, buses, etc.).
